Founder mentoring

Get clear on what matters, then do the next thing.

I work with founders and operators who are stuck on a growth, GTM or commercial problem. We strip it back to the fundamentals, challenge the assumptions, and turn the conversation into a decision, an experiment or a clear next step.

01

Start with the foundations.

Before we jump into channels, tactics or growth hacks, I usually come back to four questions.

  • Who is the customer?
  • What problem are we actually solving?
  • How does the customer describe that problem?
  • What journey do they take before becoming an active user or customer?
02

Turn assumptions into evidence.

Founders often have plenty of ideas. The useful question is which ones are true. We separate what you know from what you believe, then work out the fastest way to learn.

  • Challenge the assumptions behind the plan
  • Use customer conversations and real behaviour
  • Define a small, falsifiable experiment
  • Get a first iteration out, rather than waiting for perfect
03

Leave with something to do.

I do not want mentoring to become an interesting conversation that changes nothing. The aim is to create momentum.

  • A decision to make
  • An experiment to run
  • Homework before the next session
  • A simple review of what you did, what is next, and what is blocking you

How I work

One-off clarity, or ongoing accountability.

You can use mentoring for one difficult decision or as a regular cadence while you work through a bigger goal. Ongoing sessions are usually built around a clear objective, actions between calls, and honest feedback on what is and is not working.

Think from first principles

We work backwards from the customer, the problem and the outcome, rather than starting with a favourite tactic or channel.

Use the customer's language

Positioning gets stronger when it reflects how customers describe their problem, not how the company describes its product.

Build the skill, not dependence

Mentoring is there to help you make better decisions yourself. If you need someone to do the work for you, that is consulting.

Track record

Hundreds of founder conversations, grounded in operating work.

I have supported founders through GrowthMentor, MentorCruise, Google for Startups, Techstars and other startup programmes, alongside hands-on growth work through We Scale Startups.

479+ founder sessions

Across mentoring, accelerator and advisory conversations.

4.97/5 average mentor rating

Independent feedback from founders I have mentored.

Operator perspective

Advice shaped by real positioning, acquisition, paid media, app growth and GTM work, not theory alone.

Get in touch

Tell me what you are trying to work through.

If I think I can help, we can start with the problem in front of you. If what you actually need is execution rather than mentoring, I will say so.

Stay in the loop

Two ways to keep in touch.
